Govt. Degree College (GDC) Poonch organised an intra-collegiate essay writing competition on the theme “Unsung Heroes of the Freedom Struggle and 80 Years of Indian Independence” as part of the celebrations marking 80 years of India’s Independence.

The competition aimed to create awareness among students about the contributions and sacrifices of lesser-known heroes of India’s freedom struggle and encourage them to reflect on the nation’s journey and achievements during the eight decades since Independence.

Students from different semesters participated enthusiastically and presented their views with creativity, originality and a strong sense of patriotism. The essays highlighted the courage, dedication and sacrifices of various unsung heroes who made significant contributions to India’s freedom struggle.

Participants also reflected on the country’s progress and achievements since Independence.

The programme was organised under the guidance and coordination of Prof. Mohd Riaz, Convener of the committee.

The essays were evaluated by a panel comprising Prof. Mohd Riaz, Dr. Amjed Ali, Dr. Imtiaz Hussain Shah and Dr. Mohd Faisal, on the basis of content, originality, relevance to the theme, language, presentation and overall quality.

The top three positions were secured by Vanshika Raina of Semester 3 (First), Muaawiah Rashid of Semester 1 (Second), and Aditya Singh Chandial of Semester 5 (Third).

The winners were congratulated for their excellent performance, while all participants were appreciated for their enthusiastic involvement. Principal Dr. Jasbir Singh lauded the efforts of the organising committee and encouraged students to actively participate in academic and literary activities.
