The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a clerk posted at the Treasury Office, Kalakote in Rajouri district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a retired government employee.

According to officials, the complainant, a retired government employee, had approached the Treasury Office, Kalakote, for the withdrawal of ₹50,000 in gratuity.

The accused clerk, identified as Hussain, allegedly demanded ₹25,000 for processing the case.

The complainant reportedly expressed his financial difficulties and requested the official to reduce the demanded amount.

Following this, the alleged bribe amount was settled at ₹20,000.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and submitted a written complaint, seeking legal action against the accused official.

After verification of the allegations, the ACB registered a case and constituted a team from ACB Police Station Rajouri to lay a trap.

During the trap operation, the accused clerk was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant. He was arrested on the spot, officials said.

The ACB subsequently conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused in Rajouri in connection with the case.

Further investigation is underway, the ACB said.
