JAMMU/ POONCH : CMO Poonch Inspects District Hospital Amid Ongoing NHM Strike, Directs 24x7 Patient-Friendly Services.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Poonch, Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, today conducted a comprehensive inspection of Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital, Poonch, amid the ongoing strike by National Health Mission (NHM) employees, to review healthcare services and ensure uninterrupted patient care at the district’s premier health institution.

During the inspection, Dr. Khan visited major departments and critical service points, including the Emergency Department, Operation Theatre, General Wards, Laboratory, Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), Paediatric Ward, High Dependency Unit (HDU), Labour Room, Dialysis Unit and Radiology Department.

The CMO took detailed stock of the availability of essential medicines, diagnostic and life-saving equipment, cleanliness, duty deployment as per the approved roster and the quality of treatment being provided to indoor as well as emergency patients.

Special focus was laid on critical services such as Emergency, SNCU, Labour Room, HDU and Dialysis, which cater to patients from Poonch town as well as remote and border areas.

The inspection assumes significance in view of the ongoing NHM employees' strike, which has affected health services at various levels.

Dr. Khan reviewed the available manpower and duty arrangements to ensure that essential and emergency services continue without disruption and that patients do not face inconvenience due to the ongoing agitation.

During the visit, the CMO interacted with patients, attendants and hospital staff and sought feedback regarding the services being provided, waiting time, staff behaviour, investigations and the overall hospital experience.

He also enquired from staff about duty arrangements and operational issues affecting the delivery of healthcare services.

Issuing firm directions on the spot, Dr. Khan instructed all doctors, paramedical and supporting staff to remain punctual and present on duty strictly as per the approved duty roster.

He stressed that emergency and other essential healthcare services must function round the clock and directed staff to maintain a courteous, empathetic and patient-friendly approach towards patients and their attendants.

He further directed that Emergency, Labour Room, SNCU, HDU, Dialysis and other essential services remain functional 24x7, while patients' rights, standard operating procedures and professional dress code are strictly adhered to.

The CMO also laid emphasis on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in wards, operation theatres, laboratories and public areas of the hospital.

Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan underlined that Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital is the backbone of secondary healthcare services in Poonch and said that people of the border district deserve timely, dignified and quality medical care.

He directed the hospital authorities to ensure prompt attention to emergency and critical cases, regular maintenance of equipment, adequate availability of medicines and effective coordination among different departments so that no patient suffers due to a shortage of staff, diagnostics or essential supplies.

The CMO also made it clear that surprise inspections would continue and that any laxity, absenteeism or unprofessional conduct affecting patient care would invite strict disciplinary action.

Reaffirming the Health Department's commitment to public healthcare, Dr. Khan said that such inspections are aimed at strengthening accountability, improving patient satisfaction and ensuring that every person visiting the hospital receives compassionate, timely and professional medical treatment.
